Sustainable living, explained honestly..
PetalPoko is an independent publication about sustainable living. We exist to help everyday people make thoughtful, practical choices that are better for both people and the planet, without the guilt, the hype, or the confusion that so often surrounds this subject.
The internet is full of sustainability advice. Some of it is excellent. A lot of it is fear-driven, oversimplified, quietly trying to sell you something, or simply wrong. We started PetalPoko because we wanted something different: a calm, trustworthy place to understand the choices in front of you, weigh the real trade-offs, and take one useful step forward.
What we believe
Progress over perfection
Sustainable living is a direction, not a test you pass or fail. Small, consistent changes matter, and you do not need to overhaul your whole life to make a real difference.
Evidence over opinion
We research before we write, we favour reliable sources, and we are honest about trade-offs and uncertainty. When the evidence is mixed, we say so.
Trust over traffic
When we have to choose between the version of an article that earns more clicks and the version that serves you better, we choose you.
Clarity over cleverness
We assume you are intelligent, and we never assume you are an expert. We explain the science in plain language and leave you more confident than we found you.

What we cover
PetalPoko is organised around a handful of topics that touch everyday life: the materials our things are made of, healthier and lower-impact homes, food and the kitchen, waste and recycling, the wider ideas behind sustainability, and the animals we share the planet with. Across all of them, our goal is the same: to teach one useful idea, inspire one realistic action, and leave you a little more informed and a little more hopeful.
You will find honest explainers (“is bamboo actually sustainable?”), practical how-to guides, careful comparisons, and myth-busting pieces that separate what is true from what is merely repeated. We write for the long term, so we try to make articles that are still useful years from now, and we update them when the evidence changes.
How we work
We treat research as the foundation of everything, not an afterthought. We check our facts against reliable sources, distinguish evidence from opinion, and are careful not to overstate what a study actually shows. We avoid absolute claims like “eco-friendly” or “saves the planet” without the context that makes them meaningful, because a claim you cannot rely on is worse than no claim at all.
We also try to respect your time, your budget, and your circumstances. Good advice is not one-size-fits-all, so we point out costs, limitations, and the times when the greenest choice is simply to keep using what you already own.
How PetalPoko is funded
We believe in being open about this. PetalPoko is supported by advertising and by affiliate links, including Google AdSense and the Amazon Associates programme. That means some pages show ads, and if you buy something through one of our links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
This support keeps the Site free to read, and it never changes what we recommend or how we write. Our editorial judgement is independent of our funding, full stop. You can read the details in our Affiliate Disclosure and our Privacy Policy.
A note on trust
We know that trust is earned slowly, through consistent, useful, and honest writing, and that it can be lost quickly. So if we ever get something wrong, we want to fix it. If you spot an error, have a question, or would like to suggest a topic, we would genuinely love to hear from you at support@petalpoko.com.
Thank you for reading PetalPoko. We hope you leave every page a little more informed, a little more confident, and a little more optimistic than when you arrived.
