About PetalPoko
PetalPoko is an independent publication about sustainable living. We publish research-based articles, guides, explainers, and comparisons to help everyday people make thoughtful, practical choices that are better for people and the planet. Our aim is to be a calm, trustworthy, evergreen resource, not a source of hype or guilt.
Anyone curious about living a little more sustainably, whatever their starting point. Whether you are completely new to the subject or already well informed, we try to meet you where you are and help you take one useful next step. We assume you are intelligent, and we never assume you are an expert.
We focus on a few areas that touch everyday life: the materials our products are made of, healthier and lower-impact homes, food and the kitchen, waste and recycling, the wider ideas behind sustainability, and the animals we share the planet with. We prefer evergreen topics that will still be useful years from now.
We do not publish on a fixed schedule, because we would rather take the time to research a piece properly than rush it out to hit a quota. We add new articles regularly, and we also update existing ones when the evidence changes, so it is worth checking back or bookmarking the topics you care about.
Trust and accuracy
We research before we write, we favour reliable and primary sources, and we are honest about trade-offs and uncertainty. We avoid clickbait and unsupported claims, and we try to explain the reasoning behind our conclusions so you can judge them for yourself. Where relevant, we cite our sources so you can check them.
Carefully. We aim to distinguish what the evidence actually shows from what is merely popular, and we try not to overstate findings. When research is limited, mixed, or contested, we say so rather than pretending to be certain. If a widely repeated claim does not hold up, we will tell you, even when the honest answer is less dramatic than the myth.
We fix it. If you spot an error or think a claim needs a closer look, please email us at support@petalpoko.com. We take corrections seriously, because being accurate matters more to us than being right the first time.
Some of it is universal, and some of it depends on where you live. Things like local recycling rules, native plants, wildlife laws, and product availability vary from place to place. Where a topic is region-specific, we try to say so and encourage you to check the guidance that applies in your own area.
Recommendations, ads, and affiliate links
No. PetalPoko is a publication, not a shop. We do not manufacture or sell products of our own.
Through advertising and affiliate links. We display ads, including through Google AdSense, and we take part in affiliate programmes such as Amazon Associates. If you buy something through one of our links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. You can read the full details in our Affiliate Disclosure.
Yes. PetalPoko is completely free to read, with no paywall and no subscription. Advertising and affiliate links are what keep it that way, so you get the full library at no cost.
No. Earning a commission never changes our editorial judgement. We choose what to write about and what to recommend based on research and genuine usefulness, not on which links pay the most. We are just as willing to tell you that something is not worth buying, or that keeping what you already own is the better choice.
We start from what is genuinely useful to you, not from what earns the most. When we discuss a product or an approach, we look at the evidence and weigh the real trade-offs, including cost, durability, maintenance, and environmental impact across its whole life. We are happy to say when something is not worth buying, when a cheaper option is just as good, or when the best choice is simply to keep using what you already own.
Our editorial content is independent, and advertisers and partners do not get to influence, review, or approve our articles. We may work with advertising and affiliate partners to help support the Site, but that is kept firmly separate from our editorial judgement. If we ever publish anything sponsored, we will label it clearly so you always know what you are reading.
